Another home

Only a few hours ago I arrived at the apartment of Gloria, where Chris (the other guy on this trip) and I will be living for the next five months.  The apartment is small and it is far from Madrid–we will have a 50 minute commute to school–but Gloria is wonderful and we get our own rooms.  I remain sick, though about two thirds of my voice has returned, which is enough to get by on.  After spending a week living out of suitcases at Hostal Marlesca, it was nice to finally be able to unpack and to feel like I am in a place that will be moderately stable.  The neighborhood is supposedly a quiet one, so it will be a nice contrast with the hustle and bustle of Madrid.

The two Bad Things about living with Gloria are: (1) she smokes, and (2) there is no Internet.  The second will have to be remedied somehow.
I know that I have missed quite a bit of time in reporting to you, but I’ve been sick and we’ve been endlessly busy.  I plan on gathering thoughts and pictures soon.  All is well though, and I continue to continue.

  1. Hey Paul - good to hear that things seem to be getting towards more stable - we (as always) look forward to hearing your updates and stuff, but no rush - don’t feel bad about not being able to blog for a few days, we’ll just know it means you’re SUPRA-BUSY and stuff. :D

I explained the Optimim international thing to Mom, so she just needs to go online and set it up (v. easy) and then it’ll just be 8 cents a minute for us to call you from home. ALSO there is some “remote access” 1-800 number that we might get for that, too, so there’s a chance -I- might be able to cell-phone call you for the same 8 cents a minute, but we’ll see.

Hope all is well (as soon as Mom gets back from getting gas in the van she and I are driving the drive back to HoCro). !

  2. Update: I’m at school, and the international calling thing IS set up - and there IS an 800 number, so I can call you too for 8 cents a minute too.

  3. Hi Paul,
Glad you are in your “home away from home” for the next few months. Karl told you about the phone set up. I spoke to Aunt Linda tonight and gave her this weblink. Maybe you will hear from them! They send their love.
    Happy MLK Day! love MOM

  4. Paul, estoy adicta a tu blog, y me gusta el nombre. ¡Espero que tu salud se mejore y que te guste tu nuevo hogar con Gloria! Dentro de un mes, estaré en Madrid también…

    Hi Paul,
Glad to hear you’re keeping on, keeping on. Your body will catch up soon. It seems nice to have a compadre at Gloria’s - I hope Chris is a good one. Don’t fret and as soon as you’re feeling better physically - have FUN!
    Love from
    Aunt Peggy
